Below is a map of earthquake in Greece and area over the last 24 hours. Above are earthquakes over a 90 day period of time, but mainly showing those this week and those the last 48 hours. Note the series of quakes in the southwest corner of Germany. That's an old rifting zone.
Below is an earthquake list for the last 24 hour in southern Greece.
Below is a world ionosphere map for this afternoon, PST. It is at a high rate of intensity.

Click the above link to check out a swarm that is going on right now. Today we are having a series of small to moderate earthquakes in southern Greece, and other small earthquakes long the Adriatic, to northern Italy and also some small earthquakes near where south west Germany meets Switzerland.
It should be noted that the ionosphere is fully active due to the large solar storm that happened a few days ago. As I have said before, there are studies on the interactive relationship between ground activity and ionosphere activity. Click below for an hourly updated ionosphere map.
Europe is not as earthquake prone as California, but it does have it's share. Italy can have some strong ones in indeed. Southern Greece is a complex system of plate boundries, which include subduction, and it has significant volcanos.
The German small quakes are in an area that is an old rifting zone, and one that includes an old believed to be extinct volcano. You can even see this volcano's cone from the road.
I'll blog about that valley in Germany someday, because I'm going to nearby Liechtenstein soon, and will stop there and film it and collect rocks.
Right now let's focus on the quake and swarm in Greece.
Here are some interesting and rather dramatic links showing these numerous quakes. It should be noted that there are numerous light earthquakes happening in the last 48 hours on Santorini and one just happened there, and south of that is an highly localized swarm near Crete.
Santorini is a significant and very much hot volcano that may be responsible for the destruction of the Minoan civilization thousands of years ago. It's eruptions can be the explosive kind. It's a ring shaped former cone that blew that cone's top right off, to create a natural harbor used by humankind for thousands of years, and today is a top tourist destination. Santorini is one of the most interesting and stunning places to visit, even it it's a hot volcano. I go there just because it is a volcano.
Here is the 5.3 earthquake in southern Greece today:
